Birth of a session

Since the Charlottesville Shebeen session has been on hiatus for the summer, a friend of mine, Lanny Fields, and I decided to start an Irish session right in our own community. We have begun meeting from noon to 4pm on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month at a new coffeehouse in Goochland, VA called Java Jodi's. We played for the third time yesterday with seven musicians in attendance: Bern (fiddle), Alec (fiddle), Lanny (octave mandolin), Harlan (mandolin/guitar), Tom (tinwhistle/mandolin), Troy (upright bass), and me (fiddle). We have our own nook where we sit and play for several hours at a time, frequently receiving applause and tips. As you can see from the photo (taken in mid-July), Jodi did a great job decorating the place and it is bright and cheery, with wonderful energy.
